The Story
Pepper is the world's most traded spice — and the most adulterated. Most commercial pepper is harvested early, machine-processed, and blended from multiple origins. Ours is different. Grown in the lush Southern Province, each berry is hand-picked at full maturity to maximise piperine content and aromatic complexity. Sun-dried slowly to preserve every volatile oil.
Uses
All savoury cooking, marinades, spice rubs, sauces
Pairs With
Turmeric, coriander, garlic, lemon, red meat, aged cheese
Health & Wellness
Piperine — the active compound in black pepper — has been shown to increase the bioavailability of curcumin (turmeric) by up to 2,000%. It enhances absorption of many other nutrients too.
Black pepper stimulates the secretion of hydrochloric acid in the stomach, improving digestion and reducing bloating, gas, and indigestion.
Piperine has demonstrated antioxidant activity that helps neutralise free radicals and may reduce chronic disease risk.
Research suggests piperine may inhibit the formation of new fat cells and support thermogenesis, contributing to healthy weight management.
Ceylon Black Pepper has shown antibacterial activity against several strains, including those responsible for food spoilage and certain infections.
Provenance
Every batch of Niwandra Black Pepper is traceable to a specific farm, a specific harvest, and a specific family in Sri Lanka. No blending, no anonymising, no shortcuts.
The Niwandra Promise
"We will never blend origins, never compromise on authenticity, and never prioritise margin over quality."
Recipe Suggestion
A deeply nourishing broth that pairs piperine's absorption-boosting power with turmeric's anti-inflammatory curcumin.
